The FX84 OLTS integrates the functionalities of an optical power meter and a light source. Its dedicated test port supports unidirectional loss testing, enabling two technicians at different locations to simultaneously test the fiber link. The auto loopback mode automatically toggles the laser source wavelength, and the OPM tester can detect the incident wavelength using the WaveID function. Single-ended loss can be measured by connecting the cable under test to the reference launch cable and testing the power at the far end.
When network transmission rates degrade, minimizing the link's return loss reduces the bit error rate. Additionally, optical systems using high-speed lasers, analog transmission, or Raman amplifiers also require low return loss for optimal optical performance.
