Pick-shaped cutter is also known as a conical cutter because its head is conical in shape.

The damage process of pick-shaped cutters:

(1) The damage of the cutter begins with the wear of the hardfacing alloy, which is located at the junction of the cutter head and the cutter body. Since the cutter rotates during operation, the wear of the hardfacing alloy is uniform;

(2) After the hardfacing alloy is worn away, the cutter head is mainly fixed by embedding. The joint between the cutter head and the cutter body continues to wear, gradually exposing the cutter head. The embedding groove begins to show uneven edges and partial cracking;

(3) The wear of the cutter head intensifies, and the cutter head itself begins to bear external forces. Eventually, the cutter head is completely worn or dislodged from the embedding groove due to external forces. At this point, the cutter should be replaced promptly;

(4) If not replaced in time, the cutter begins to wear the cutter body;

(5) When the cutter body wears down to the tail, the rotation of the cutter deteriorates, and unilateral wear begins to occur.
