The core of the diesel cetane number analyzer simulates the combustion process of diesel fuel in an engine, calculating the cetane number by detecting combustion characteristics. During operation, a small amount of diesel sample is injected into a sealed simulated combustion chamber, and the chamber temperature is raised to the typical temperature required for diesel self-ignition (usually 350-400°C) via a heating device, while maintaining the chamber pressure within the range of engine compression stroke pressure (approximately 3-5 MPa). Once the sample reaches self-ignition conditions, the instrument uses high-precision sensors to record the time interval from "reaching self-ignition temperature" to "start of combustion" in real-time—this is the "ignition delay period," a key indicator, as higher diesel cetane numbers result in better self-ignition and shorter ignition delay periods. Subsequently, the instrument compares the measured ignition delay period with a pre-stored database of "standard fuel (mixtures of n-hexadecane and α-methylnaphthalene with known cetane numbers) ignition delay periods," and calculates the sample's cetane number using built-in algorithms.
