Product Designer Profile:
In 1886, Mies (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe) was born in Aachen, Germany, under the original name Maria Ludwig Michael. After establishing his own studio, he changed his name to Mies van der Rohe. Mies van der Rohe is one of the renowned architects on par with Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier. Like Le Corbusier, Mies worked with the famous architectural master Peter Behrens from 1908 to 1911, during which he learned a great deal. Later, he adopted the style of the Bauhaus school and inherited the style left by Walter Gropius.
In 1929, Mies designed the German Pavilion for the Barcelona International Exposition, which made him one of the most prominent modern designers in the world at that time. "Less is more" is the design philosophy he adhered to. In his works, every detail is refined to the absolute limit of simplification, and he attached great importance to details. In his autobiography, he once said, "I don't want to be brilliant, I just want to be better!" Although Mies is fundamentally regarded as an architectural master, his innovative and vibrant furniture designs also made him one of the first-generation masters of modern furniture design. The exquisite proportions, carefully crafted details, purity and integrity of materials, and straightforward design concepts of his furniture works most typify the concepts of modern design.
