Mart Stam, a Dutch architect, unlike Hans J. Wegner, secured an unshakable position in the furniture world with just one piece. In 1926, the world's first cantilever chair was born. This "C-shaped" leg structure broke the rule that chairs must have at least three legs. The first floating chair was made by cutting and joining metal gas pipes. Its extremely avant-garde and sleek design caused a stir as soon as it was introduced.

However, it still had issues with elasticity. It wasn't until two architectural masters, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer, discovered that seamless steel tubes combined the advantages of strength and elasticity, and in 1927, they designed the "MR10" and "B33" floating chairs respectively, that the evolution era of the floating chair began.

Designer Mart Stam focused on sleek structural design. The S33 chair was the first cantilever chair in design history, created in 1926, earlier than Marcel Breuer's B33 chair. Not only did it successfully defy gravity with its "C-shaped legs," but it also inspired many designers during the Bauhaus period, when tubular steel chairs were highly popular, to compete in developing cantilever chairs. This even sparked rumors and debates over who should be called the "father of the cantilever chair." However, there is only one "first in history," just as there is only one truth behind the rumors.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer, two architectural masters, discovered that seamless steel tubes combined the advantages of "strength" and "elasticity." As a result, in 1927, they respectively designed the widely known cantilever chairs "MR10" and "B33," ushering in the evolution era of the cantilever chair.
