Precautions:
1. Silicon carbide rods are hard and brittle, and are prone to breakage under severe vibration and impact. Therefore, extra care should be taken during transportation, and they should be handled gently.
2. The heating section length of the silicon carbide rod should be equal to the width of the furnace chamber. If the heating section extends into the furnace wall, it may easily damage the furnace wall.
3. The length of the cold end section should be equal to the thickness of the furnace wall plus the length of the cold end extending out of the furnace wall. Generally, the cold end extension length is 50–150 mm to facilitate cooling of the cold end and connection of clamps.
4. The inner diameter of the furnace hole for the silicon carbide rod should be 1.4–1.6 times the outer diameter of the cold end section. If the furnace hole is too small or the filler inside is too tight, it may hinder the free expansion and contraction of the silicon carbide rod at high temperatures, leading to breakage. During installation, the silicon carbide rod should be able to rotate freely by 360 degrees.
5. The distance between the silicon carbide rod and the heated object or furnace wall should be greater than or equal to three times the diameter of the heating section. The center-to-center distance between silicon carbide rods should be no less than four times the diameter of their heating sections.
6. The cold end section of the silicon carbide rod should be connected to the main circuit using aluminum braids or aluminum foil. The clamps on the cold end must be tightly secured.
7. New furnaces or electric furnaces that have not been used for a long time should be preheated before use. Preheating should be done using old rods or other heat sources.
8. Silicon carbide rods should be stored in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption. Moisture can cause the aluminum layer on the cold end to decompose and peel off, increasing the contact resistance between the cold end and the clamps, and may lead to cracking when the rod is energized.
