Properties:
What type of material is 9Cr18Mo? 9Cr18Mo steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium martensitic stainless steel developed by adding molybdenum to the base composition of 9Cr18 steel. As a result, 9Cr18Mo combines high hardness and excellent wear resistance with good tempering resistance and corrosion resistance. It also exhibits favorable high-temperature dimensional stability.
Chemical Composition:
Chemical Composition of 9Cr18Mo Stainless Steel
Physical Properties:
9Cr18Mo density 7.85g, specific heat capacity 4600J, resistivity 0.6μm, thermal expansion coefficient 10.5, thermal conductivity 29.3, density
Applications:
9Cr18Mo stainless steel is suitable for manufacturing plastic and rubber molds requiring high corrosion and wear resistance; producing plastic molds for semiconductor IC encapsulation and corrosion-resistant, rust-proof mold components; making cutting tools such as scissors, surgical blades, mechanical blades, and stainless steel blades; turbine blades, nozzles, valves, rulers, highly corrosion-resistant bearing parts, and high-wear-resistant equipment components; as well as high-corrosion-resistant mold equipment for the food industry and offshore platforms.
Characteristics:
9Cr18Mo is a martensitic stainless steel with very high carbon and chromium content. This steel offers rust and corrosion resistance, along with high strength and hardness. The hardness of 9Cr18Mo stainless steel is 265 HBS, with a heat-treated hardness of 58-62 HRC. 9Cr18Mo stainless steel bars are available in diameters from 1.0mm to 350mm, and stainless steel plates range in thickness from 2.3mm to 280mm.
Heat Treatment (Quenching, Tempering, Annealing Process):
; The heat treatment process for martensitic 9Cr18Mo stainless steel is vacuum heat treatment. To further enhance the material properties of 9Cr18Mo, cryogenic treatment is required. Parameters such as heating temperature and holding time are as follows:
Heating temperature 1050°C, final temperature 850°C, furnace cooling.
Annealing temperature 820°C, cooled to 500°C, air-cooled outside the furnace, metallographic structure: pearlite, hardness 255 HBS.
Quenching temperature 1030°C, oil cooling, hardness 56-62 HRC, metallographic structure: martensite + carbides.
Tempering temperature 250°C, air cooling, metallographic structure: martensite + carbides.
Cryogenic temperature -176°C, air cooling.
