Properties: Green to blue powder or orthorhombic bipyramidal crystals. Density 2.54g/cm³. Melting point of anhydrous form is 493°C. Boiling point of anhydrous form is 903°C, decomposing to cuprous chloride. Hygroscopic in moist air. Soluble in water, alcohol, ammonium chloride, and methanol; slightly soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, and ether. Aqueous solution is acidic.
