Physicochemical Properties of Sodium Fluoride

Physical and Chemical Properties: Colorless shiny crystals or white powder, specific gravity 2.25, melting point 993°C, boiling point 1695°C. Soluble in water and hydrofluoric acid, slightly soluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is weakly alkaline. Dissolves in hydrofluoric acid to form sodium hydrogen fluoride, capable of corroding glass. Toxic!

Main Uses of Sodium Fluoride

Used as a phosphating accelerator in the coating industry to stabilize phosphating solutions, refine phosphating, and improve the performance of phosphating films. In the phosphating of aluminum and its alloys, it seals the highly harmful negatively catalytic Al³⁺ ions, facilitating smooth phosphating. Also used as a wood preservative, agricultural insecticide, brewing industry bactericide, medical preservative, welding flux, alkaline zincate galvanizing additive, and in enamel, papermaking, etc.

Applications of Sodium Fluoride

1. Sodium fluoride is an important fluoride salt used as an additive in electrolytes during the startup of electrolytic cells.

2. Used as an agricultural insecticide, bactericide, and raw material for cockroach powder.

3. Used in the镶钢 process of mechanical blades and planer knives to lower the镶钢 melting point and increase welding strength.

4. Used in the manufacturing of沸腾钢, as a treatment agent for light metal fluoride salts, and as a metal flux.

5. Used as a wood preservative, water treatment agent, ceramic pigment, and fluoride treatment agent for drinking water.

6. Used as a UF₃ adsorbent in the nuclear industry and for the treatment of raw hides and skins in the leather industry.

7. Used as a raw material for manufacturing other fluorides, and applied in enamel, pharmaceutical, papermaking production, and building materials industries.
