Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) nitrogen generators refer to nitrogen production equipment designed and manufactured using physical methods based on PSA technology, with clean compressed air as the raw material. 2. Working Principle of Nitrogen Generators in the New Materials Industry
Carbon molecular sieve can simultaneously adsorb oxygen and nitrogen from the air, with adsorption capacity increasing as pressure rises. At the same pressure, there is no significant difference in the equilibrium adsorption capacity of oxygen and nitrogen. Therefore, effective separation of oxygen and nitrogen is difficult to achieve solely through pressure changes. However, by considering adsorption rates, the adsorption characteristics of oxygen and nitrogen can be effectively distinguished. Oxygen molecules are smaller in diameter than nitrogen molecules, resulting in a diffusion rate hundreds of times faster. Thus, carbon molecular sieve adsorbs oxygen rapidly, reaching over 90% within about one minute. At this point, nitrogen adsorption is only around 5%. Given that oxygen and nitrogen account for 21% and 78% of air, respectively, the adsorbed molecules are predominantly oxygen. The remaining nitrogen molecules are enriched at one end of the adsorber, forming product nitrogen that enters the nitrogen process buffer tank.
