Introduction to Large VPSA Oxygen Generators

VPSA (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen generation equipment operates by utilizing specialized VPSA molecular sieves to selectively adsorb impurities such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water from the air under conditions slightly above atmospheric pressure (0.3 barg). The molecular sieves are then regenerated through vacuum desorption, enabling the cyclic production of high-purity oxygen (~93%). According to user demand, the oxygen is compressed to the required pressure using an oxygen compressor for end-use.

Process Flow of Large VPSA Oxygen Generators

Air enters through a filter into a blower and is conveyed into the lower section of the adsorption tower. The lower part of the adsorption tower is filled with activated alumina, which removes water and carbon dioxide molecules from the air to prevent "poisoning" of the zeolite molecular sieve. The upper section contains the zeolite molecular sieve. As air flows through the fixed bed of molecular sieve, nitrogen molecules are adsorbed and diffuse into the solid sieve material, while oxygen molecules and argon atoms pass through the bed into a buffer tank. The buffer tank is connected to an oxygen compressor, which compresses the product oxygen to the user-specified pressure and delivers it to a storage tank for industrial use.
