It is colorless, odorless, non-flammable, and non-explosive under normal temperature and pressure. However, its molecular structure is very stable, and its chemical properties are highly inert, making it difficult to react with other substances. Due to its significant inertness, it is widely used as a protective gas.

Industrial nitrogen production uses air as the raw material, separating oxygen and nitrogen from it. The main methods include cryogenic air separation.

Startup Procedure for Marine Nitrogen Generators:
1. First, start the compressor and the refrigerated air dryer. When the pressure reaches 1.0 MPa, the compressor will automatically stop.
2. Press the power button of the nitrogen generator, and it will start running automatically. Adjust the pressure of the pressure-reducing valve on the lower right to around 0.8 MPa.
3. Slightly open the outlet flow valve on the upper right that is not connected to the pipeline to allow venting. At this point, the nitrogen purity can be visibly observed rising. After 20–30 minutes, the purity can reach over 99%.
4. Close the vent valve and open the outlet flow valve connected to the pipeline. Do not fully open this valve. Open the rear door of the equipment and adjust the outlet pressure-regulating valve to 0.6 MPa. Qualified nitrogen is then delivered to the nitrogen storage tank in the workshop.
5. Open the drain valve at the bottom of the nitrogen storage tank and allow a small amount of venting for 3–5 minutes before closing the drain valve.
6. When the pressure in the nitrogen storage tank reaches 0.5–0.7 MPa, production and packaging can begin.
