S235JR European Standard Steel Plate Composition, Properties, and Application Details

S235JR is a non-alloy structural steel defined by the European standard EN 10025-2, belonging to the category of general structural steels, with excellent weldability and workability. In S235JR, the "S" stands for structural steel, "235" indicates its minimum yield strength of 235 MPa, and "JR" denotes the impact energy absorption requirement at a test temperature of 0°C.

The chemical composition of S235JR steel plate is approximately: carbon (C) content not exceeding 0.22%, manganese (Mn) content between 0.55% and 1.70%, silicon (Si) content between 0.10% and 0.55%, phosphorus (P) content not exceeding 0.045%, and sulfur (S) content not exceeding 0.045%.

In national standards, the performance indicators of S235JR steel plate are equivalent to those of Q235B steel plate under the Chinese national standard GB/T 700-1988. Q235B steel plate also has a yield strength of 235 MPa, with similar chemical composition and mechanical properties to S235JR, making them interchangeable in many application scenarios.

S235JR steel plate is widely used in building structures, bridges, vehicles, ships, pressure vessels, machinery manufacturing, and other fields, especially in structural components that need to withstand static and dynamic loads. Due to its good workability and weldability, S235JR steel plate can be easily cut, bent, welded, and processed during manufacturing.
