Nano titanium nitride, golden yellow cubic crystal system. Molecular weight61.89. Melting point 2950°C. Density 5.43. Slightly soluble in hydrofluoric acid, aqua regia, and certain acids; insoluble in water. It features high melting point, high strength, high hardness, resistance to acid and alkali corrosion, wear resistance, high-temperature chemical stability, and excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.
Applications of Titanium Nitride
1. Titanium nitride coatings are widely used on metal edges to maintain the corrosion resistance of mechanical molds, such as drill bits and milling cutters, often improving their lifespan by three times or more.
2. Due to its metallic luster, it is commonly used for decorative accents in clothing and automotive accessories. As an outer coating, it is typically applied over a nickel (Ni) or chromium (Cr) plating base for packaging pipes and door/window hardware.
3. This coating is also used in aerospace and military applications, as well as for protecting sliding surfaces of bicycle and motorcycle suspension systems, and even shock absorber shafts in remote-controlled toy cars.
4. The material is non-toxic and complies with FDA standards, making it suitable for medical instruments, such as maintaining the sharpness of surgical blades and orthopedic bone saw edges, or directly as implant prosthetics (especially hip replacement implants) and other medical implants.
5. Titanium nitride thin films can be used in microelectronics as conductive barrier layers between active devices and metal contacts. When diffused into metal silicides, its conductivity (30-70 μΩ·cm) is sufficient to form good conductive connections.
6. This special "barrier metal" also exhibits the chemical or mechanical properties of ceramics. The process is widely used in current 45nm chip designs to enhance transistor performance. In battery applications, combining titanium nitride with gate dielectric layers (e.g., HfSiO) can increase the dielectric constant compared to standard SiO2, scale down gate length, reduce leakage, achieve higher drive current, and maintain the same or better threshold voltage.
7. High biostability allows the alloy to extend its applications to bioelectronic electrodes, such as subretinal prosthetic projects and biomedical microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS), enabling smart implants or in vivo biosensors to withstand severe bodily fluid corrosion.
