The manufacturing process of white steam-reeled silk is divided into hand reeling and machine reeling. Hand reeling mostly uses high-quality cocoons, which are soaked in hot water and then drawn by hand, winding the silk onto a reel. In contrast, machine reeling is a more modern process that increases production capacity, ensures more uniform fiber fineness, and liberates a large amount of labor. The production process of raw silk includes: cocoon mixing → cocoon peeling → cocoon selection → cocoon boiling → reeling → rereeling → finishing → inspection. Essentially, it involves soaking the cocoons in high-temperature water, cooling them, drawing the silk, extracting the filaments from the cocoon layers, and then combining several filaments according to the required linear density to spin industrial silk, commonly known as white steam-reeled silk.
