100% Mulberry Silk White Steam Filature

White filature silk is raw silk. Raw silk is the product obtained after reeling silk from mulberry silkworm cocoons. Commonly known as real silk, machine-reeled silk is also called filature silk, while hand-reeled silk is referred to as native silk. Raw silk becomes degummed silk after the degumming process. The product obtained after reeling silk from mulberry silkworm cocoons. High-quality cocoons are placed in a cocoon boiling machine with hot water at 80°C to soften and loosen them. Then, a reeling device pulls out several strands of silk together and continuously winds them onto a reeling frame. This process is called "reeling." At this stage, the silk still contains about 20% sericin, and the lustrous silk fiber is coated with sericin, giving it a slightly hard and semi-transparent texture, hence the name "raw silk." Since a single silkworm cocoon can yield a silk fiber length averaging 700-1000 meters, raw silk is a continuous fiber, making it highly suitable for weaving. After degumming, the silk becomes soft and lustrous, known as "degummed silk." Depending on the intended use of the product, raw silk undergoes varying degrees of degumming, such as one-third, half, or two-thirds degumming.


Raw silk, filature silk, and white filature silk are essentially the same type of silk, with slight variations in terminology across different regions.
