Working Principle:
The test sample is combusted at a high temperature of 1050°C in a purified air stream. Various forms of sulfur in the coal are decomposed through combustion and carried by the air stream into the electrolytic cell, where they combine with water to form H₂SO₃. Since this disrupts the dynamic equilibrium of the original iodine-iodide pair in the electrolytic cell, the instrument immediately outputs an electric current to electrolyze the solution and generate iodine, thereby restoring the original dynamic equilibrium—a process known as coulometric titration as specified in GB/T 214-1996. The amount of current consumed to restore the original dynamic equilibrium is related to the sulfur decomposed from the test sample during combustion, which is measured and calculated by the microprocessor.
