Light Magnesium Oxide

The molecular formula of light magnesium oxide is MgO, with a relative molecular mass of 40.30. Light magnesium oxide is an odorless, tasteless, non-toxic white amorphous powder. It is sparingly soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, but soluble in acids or ammonium salt solutions. Its solubility in water increases with higher CO2 content. It has a melting point of 2852°C and a boiling point of 3600°C. When calcined at temperatures above 1000°C, it transforms into a crystalline form.
