Product Model C9 petroleum resin is a thermoplastic resin produced through pre-treatment, polymerization, distillation, and other processes from the C9 fraction, a by-product of petroleum cracking. It is not a polymer but an oligomer with a molecular weight ranging between 300-3000.
It features low acid value, good compatibility, resistance to ethanol and chemicals, chemical stability to acids and bases, as well as properties that regulate viscosity and offer excellent thermal stability. Petroleum resin is generally not used alone but serves as a promoter, regulator, modifier, or is used in combination with other resins.
Properties and Functions
A. Paints: Paints primarily use high softening point C9 petroleum resin, DCPD resin, and C5/C9 copolymer resin. Adding petroleum resin to paints can enhance gloss, improve adhesion of the paint film, and increase hardness.
B. Rubber: Rubber mainly uses low softening point C5 petroleum resin, C5/C9 copolymer resin, and DCPD resin. These resins have good compatibility with natural rubber particles and do not significantly affect the rubber vulcanization process. Adding petroleum resin to rubber can provide adhesion enhancement, reinforcement, and softening effects. In particular, the addition of C5/C9 copolymer resin not only increases the adhesion between rubber particles but also improves the adhesion between rubber particles and cord fabric, making it suitable for high-demand rubber products such as radial tires.
C. Adhesive Industry: Petroleum resin has excellent adhesive properties. Adding it to adhesives and pressure-sensitive tapes can improve adhesion, acid resistance, alkali resistance, and water resistance, while effectively reducing costs.
D. Ink Industry: Inks use petroleum resin, mainly high softening point C9 petroleum resin and DCPD resin. Adding petroleum resin to inks can achieve color development, fast drying, and brightening effects, as well as improve printability.
E. Others: The resin has a certain degree of unsaturation and can be used in paper sizing agents, plastic modifiers, etc.
