Decabromodiphenyl ethane does not produce toxic polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PBDDs) or polybrominated dibenzofurans (PBDFs) during thermal decomposition or combustion. Materials flame-retarded with it fully comply with European regulations on dioxins and pose no harm to the environment.
Decabromodiphenyl ethane is non-toxic, non-teratogenic to organisms, and has no adverse effects on aquatic life such as fish, meeting environmental protection requirements.

Decabromodiphenyl ethane is a new type of broad-spectrum, efficient, and environmentally friendly additive flame retardant developed in recent years. Its heat resistance, light resistance, and low migration are superior to those of decabromodiphenyl ether. While both have similar flame retardancy, decabromodiphenyl ethane does not produce the concerning polybrominated dioxins during combustion and is less toxic than decabromodiphenyl ether. Although decabromodiphenyl ether was exempted in October 2005, it may still face potential bans in the future. Therefore, decabromodiphenyl ethane serves as an excellent alternative. It is suitable for adhesives and sealants such as polystyrene, high-impact polystyrene, ABS, epoxy resins, and elastomers.
