VR Experience of Roof Fall Accident Precursors

Coal mine roof fall accidents refer to incidents during coal mining operations where, due to geological conditions, mining techniques, or other reasons, the coal seam or rock layer collapses or caves in unexpectedly, resulting in miners being buried, injured, or killed. To prevent and reduce the occurrence of such accidents, virtual reality (VR) technology can be utilized for experiential training and simulation. Through VR technology, the scenarios of coal mine roof fall accidents can be simulated, allowing miners to experience them in a virtual environment. Miners can wear VR headsets and other related equipment to enter a virtual coal mine setting, where they can sense the urgency and dangers of roof fall incidents. In the virtual coal mine environment, various situations of roof fall accidents can be simulated, such as coal seam collapse, the spread of collapsed areas, and escape within confined spaces. Through this experience, miners can gain a more intuitive understanding of the hazards of roof fall accidents, enhancing their safety awareness and emergency response capabilities. Additionally, VR technology can simulate different mining processes and operational procedures, enabling miners to learn and familiarize themselves with standard work protocols and safety regulations through virtual reality. By simulating various scenarios, miners can better comprehend the causes of coal mine roof fall accidents and preventive measures, improving their ability to identify and respond to risks. In summary, using VR technology for preemptive rehearsal and experiential training of coal mine roof fall accidents can effectively enhance miners' safety awareness and emergency capabilities, reducing the incidence of accidents. System Features:

2. The system includes training mode and assessment mode. In assessment mode, the system can submit user evaluation results to the backend management system;

3. Supports user interaction with virtual equipment in the virtual environment via VR controllers;

4. Allows users to navigate through the system using controller operations;

5. The system provides text and voice prompts for operations;

6. The system enables six degrees of freedom (6DoF) interaction with VR controllers in a realistic 3D environment.

Technical Approach:

The system is developed using the Unreal Engine, leveraging PBR materials to achieve a realistic virtual reality representation of the underground working environment. Particle systems are employed to simulate effects such as water spraying and dust during operations.
