I. Introduction to the Needle Flame Test Apparatus
The Needle Flame Test Apparatus is a commonly used testing device for evaluating the combustion performance of materials. It simulates real fire conditions by exposing materials to a flame of standard size and shape at specific temperatures, measuring their degree of combustion under various conditions. This test is widely applied in fields such as construction, automotive, and electronic products to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
The Needle Flame Test Apparatus is part of the IEC60695-2-2 (2004), GB5169.5-2008, GB4706.1, IEC60695-11-5:2016, and IEC60695-2-2 standards for the No. 1 needle flame test apparatus.
It is suitable for research, production, and quality inspection departments of electrical and electronic equipment and their components, including lighting, low-voltage electrical appliances, household appliances, machine tool electrical appliances, motors, power tools, electronic instruments, electrical meters, information technology equipment, office electrical equipment, electrical connectors, and accessories. It is also applicable to industries such as insulating materials, engineering plastics, or other solid combustible materials.
The Needle Flame Test Apparatus is constructed with a cold-rolled steel plate and high-grade spray-painted exterior. It uses a needle-shaped burner of specified dimensions (Φ0.9mm) fueled by a specific gas (butane or propane) to apply a timed, directional flame at a 45° angle to the sample. The ignition risk of small flames caused by fault conditions inside the equipment is assessed based on whether the sample and the ignition underlay are ignited, as well as the duration of combustion and the length of the burn.

IV. Test Operation Steps

2. Sample Testing:
A.Press the start button; the device will open the solenoid valve and automatically ignite. The carriage moves right to the target position, and the flame application timer starts automatically;
B.When the preset flame application time countdown completes, the burner cuts off the gas and extinguishes, and the carriage returns to the left initial position. The system automatically starts the combustion duration timer. Press the pause button when the sample's residual flame extinguishes to stop the combustion duration timer;
C.Press the reset button to clear test data and return to the initial state;
D.Repeat the above steps if retesting is needed.
V. Operation Precautions
1.Combustion duration automatically starts timing after the flame application time ends and only stops when the pause button is pressed;
2.Keep the combustion chamber clean, especially the needle tip, to avoid clogging. Clean the combustion chamber after each test while the power is off;
3.The fan and lighting are controlled by independent buttons for turning on and off;
4.The temperature measurement thermocouple is a fragile component; handle with care. It is not covered under product warranty;
5.After testing, remove the test gas cylinder and press the flame adjustment button to verify that residual gas in the pipeline is fully combusted and released.
