Function and Use:

Closantel Sodium is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug with good efficacy against various trematodes, nematodes, and larvae of arthropods. Its anti-trematode activity is mainly targeted at liver flukes, while its anti-nematode and anti-arthropod larval activities are primarily directed at blood or plasma-sucking parasites. This product is a potent uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation, inhibiting the phosphorylation process in the mitochondria of parasites, thereby preventing the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the parasites, leading to a rapid decline in energy metabolism and eventual death.

This product is widely used for various infections of the aforementioned parasitic diseases in cattle and sheep, administered orally or parenterally (subcutaneous and intramuscular injection), and has both therapeutic and preventive effects. It is available on the market in forms such as injections, boluses, and dips. It is generally combined with mebendazole and other benzimidazole products to form compound dips for use in sheep, and combined with levamisole to form compound boluses for use in cattle.
