Bubble Viscometers Bubble viscosity tubes can be used to quickly measure the kinematic viscosity of known fluids such as resins and varnishes. The sealed liquid standard viscosity has permanent stability, and cleaning sample tubes is fast and convenient. Glass tubes have no spouts, preventing clogging or incorrect measurements. Under temperature control, it is easy to obtain reproducible readings. The direct time method uses a glass tube engraved with three "time lines" to measure "bubble seconds," which is the time required for a bubble to vertically pass a known distance in a glass tube of known diameter. "Bubble seconds" can be converted to Stokes values. The time required for the bubble to rise is directly proportional to the fluid viscosity; the faster the bubble rises, the lower the fluid viscosity. BYK-Gardner bubble viscometers are divided into four groups, arranged by letters on the glass tubes from A5 to Z10, with viscosity ranging from 0.005 to 1000 Stokes.
