Coulter Principle:
Resistive Pulse Sensing (RPS)
There are two electrodes on either side of a chip pore in an electrolyte liquid. When a voltage is applied and current passes through the small pore, an "electrical sensing zone" is generated around the pore. As each particle passes through the pore, it displaces an equivalent volume of conductive liquid, momentarily increasing the resistance in this electrical sensing zone and forming a voltage pulse. The instrument accurately measures and analyzes these electrical pulses to obtain multidimensional data such as particle size, concentration, zeta potential, and morphology.

Single-particle detection
Real sample particles vary in size with a wide particle size distribution. The intensity of scattered light from particles is proportional to the sixth power of the particle size. Therefore, in optical detection methods, large particles can obscure the light signals of small particles, making it difficult to reflect the true situation. The new Nanocoulter particle size analyzer measures each particle passing through the pore individually, directly measuring the particle volume to determine size, eliminating mutual influence between large and small particles, accurately reflecting the true particle size distribution of the sample, and presenting the sample's original state to the user.

Single-particle zeta potential measurement
The electrical charge of particles, i.e., zeta potential, is a crucial parameter indicating the stability of dispersion systems. In electrolyte solutions, by detecting the time taken for particles to pass through the nanopore and applying the Helmholtz-Smoluchowski equation, zeta potential can be accurately calculated. Thus, Nanocoulter is the only technology capable of simultaneously measuring single-particle zeta potential, particle size, and concentration.
Accurate concentration measurement
The chip is equipped with molecular motors, ensuring stable sample flow through the pore. The number of particles detected per unit time directly gives the particle concentration, providing an accurate and direct concentration detection method. Testing standard microspheres diluted to different multiples shows that the Nanocoulter particle size analyzer exhibits excellent concentration measurement accuracy.
