Wild Sowthistle and Curly Dock Seeds
Curly Dock, also known as Sowthistle or Field Sowthistle, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family. It grows in fields and along roadsides. The entire plant is harvested for consumption before it blooms in spring. It has a bitter taste and a cold nature.
Growing Environment: Sowthistle is highly adaptable and resilient, tolerating both cold and heat. Root buds can emerge from the soil at temperatures between 10°C and 5°C. Seeds can germinate at 3–5°C, with an optimal germination temperature of 20–27°C. The ideal growth temperature ranges from 10°C to 25°C. It is drought-resistant, flood-tolerant, and salt-alkali tolerant. However, it thrives best in moist soil with ample water, producing crisp and tender leaves. Under dry conditions, the leaves become fibrous and of lower quality. Excessive moisture can lead to root rot and death. Sowthistle is not demanding regarding soil type and can even grow in coastal saline-alkali areas. It can be planted around houses, in field corners, or any available space. Nevertheless, it grows best in fertile, loose, and moisture-retentive loamy soil.
