Reagents refer to the chemical agents used in experiments; that is, the chemical agents required for chemical experiments. One category consists of relatively standard substances used for testing, identification, and detection; another category consists of raw materials used for synthesis, preparation, separation, and purification. The internationally accepted method currently is to classify the grade and purity of chemical reagents based on their main content, physical constants, etc.

General reagent purity classification: Ultra-high purity ≥ 99.99%, Guaranteed Reagent (GR) ≥ 99.8%, Analytical Reagent (AR) ≥ 99.7%, Chemical Pure (CP) ≥ 99.5%. The classification standards vary for different substances.

Sometimes, the quality of industrial-grade products may be superior to Guaranteed Reagent and Analytical Reagent. They are not necessarily completely categorized as GR or AR!

(1) Guaranteed Reagent (GR), also known as first-grade or guaranteed reagent, uses a green bottle label.

(2) Analytical Reagent (AR), also known as second-grade reagent, uses a red bottle label.

(3) Chemical Pure (CP), also known as third-grade reagent, uses a blue (dark blue) label.

Among foreign brand reagents, the most well-known in China are Merck, SIGMA, and ADAMAS (Adamas Reagent).

Currently, the main purity grades of foreign reagents include the following:

UltraPure: Ultra-pure, similar to GR grade.

HighPurity: High purity, similar to AR grade.

Biotech: Biotech grade, similar to BR grade.

Reagent: Reagent grade, similar to CP grade.

ACS: American Chemical Society standard, similar to AR grade.

USP: Pharmaceutical grade. Drug purity standards are inconsistent, with various interpretations.
