Potassium carbonate

Potassium carbonate (English name: Potassium Carbonate), commonly known as potash, and referred to as pearl ash or potash when of low purity, is an inorganic salt compound with the chemical formula K₂CO₃ and a molecular weight of 138.21 [5]. At room temperature, it appears as a white crystalline powder or granules, is odorless, highly deliquescent, and readily soluble in water (solubility: 111g/100mL at 25°C), but insoluble in alcohol. It has a density of approximately 2.428g/cm³ and a melting point of 891°C [5][6]. Potassium carbonate decomposes into potassium oxide and carbon dioxide at high temperatures and can be reduced when heated with carbon. It reacts with carbon and nitrogen or carbon and ammonia.
