Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a colorless gas, often undetectable at low concentrations and easily masked by other odors, such as air fresheners. At higher concentrations, it has a strong, irritating, and suffocating smell that can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and other parts of the body. Formaldehyde is a toxic gas that poses serious health risks and is commonly found in substandard furniture and decorative materials. Prolonged exposure to high levels of formaldehyde may lead to symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, tearing, nausea, vomiting, coughing, chest tightness, and even leukemia. In severe cases, it can be fatal. Therefore, it is important to avoid formaldehyde in daily life. Newly renovated houses should be well-ventilated, and formaldehyde levels should be monitored regularly. Formaldehyde has reducing properties, especially in alkaline solutions, where its reducing ability is stronger. It is flammable, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air, with a concentration range of 7% to 73% (by volume). The ignition temperature is approximately 300°C^[2] (some sources cite 430°C).
