Technical Principle: For the determination of petroleum and animal/vegetable oils using the infrared spectrophotometry method, water samples need to be extracted. The separatory funnel is placed on the automatic extractor stand, and both the water sample and extraction solvent are poured into the funnel. Since the extraction solvent has a higher specific gravity than water, it settles at the bottom of the funnel due to gravity. However, when the air pump blows air into the bottom of the funnel, the extraction solvent churns upward and rapidly mixes thoroughly with the water sample above. The air volume of the pump can be adjusted, and the total extraction time can be controlled by a time relay, allowing the extraction solvent to fully extract oil substances from the water.
