Phenoxyethanol is a typical high-boiling organic solvent. It has been widely used in Europe and America since the 1970s. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a slight aromatic odor, featuring good miscibility, low volatility, and strong permeability. Compared to isophorone (commonly known as 783), DBE, and benzyl alcohol, it offers outstanding comprehensive performance and can be fully substituted in applications.

Phenoxyethanol is a low-toxicity substance, commonly known as the "universal solvent." It can serve as a solvent for acrylic resins, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, epoxy resins, phenoxy resins, etc. It is commonly used as a solvent and modifier for paints, inks, and ballpoint pen inks; a penetrant for stamp pad inks; an anti-clogging agent for screen printing inks; a penetrant and bactericide in detergents; and a film-forming aid in water-based coatings. As a dye solvent, it enhances the dissolving capacity of PVC plasticizers. Leveraging its strong solvency, it is used for cleaning printed circuit boards and surface treatment of plastics, suitable for metal, ceramic, glass, and plastic surface cleaners. For example, when used in coating cleaners, it delivers excellent results and shortens the processing time for substrate surface coatings. It acts as a fragrance preservative and diluent in cosmetics and is an ideal solvent for parabens. It is an excellent solvent and penetration aid for hair dye pigments and nail polish colorants. In pharmaceuticals, it serves as an ideal preservative. In the petroleum industry, it is used as an extractant.
