L-Homocystine Uses:
1. Applications in Biomedicine.
In the pharmaceutical field, L-Homocystine has broad detoxifying effects on toxins such as formic acid, acetic acid, and alcohol due to its conjugation role in biological systems. It also helps maintain the activity of sulfhydryl enzymes in keratin production. L-Homocystine hydrochloride is used to restore liver function and has therapeutic effects on serum sickness, antimony poisoning, and radiation drug intoxication.
Derivatives of L-Homocystine hydrochloride can be used in medications. For example, acetyl-L-homocystine hydrochloride is a respiratory mucolytic expectorant. Its unique S-H group rapidly breaks down mucoproteins in sputum, significantly reducing mucus viscosity, allowing phlegm to be coughed up or suctioned out within minutes. This makes it effective in quickly treating symptoms like thick sputum and breathing difficulties caused by acute or chronic bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and emphysema. Additionally, L-Homocystine hydrochloride and its derivatives have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and inhibitory effects on bacterial and cancer cell growth.
2. Applications in the Food Industry
In the food industry, heating L-Homocystine with pentose or hexose sugars can produce meat-like aromas. Adding cysteine to corn-based products can enhance corn fragrance by 10-40 times. Therefore, cysteine is widely used in meat products, dairy items, and bread to improve food stability, enhance ascorbic acid's stabilizing effect, and slow down fat auto-oxidation, positively impacting food storage and aroma.
Adding L-Homocystine to natural juices prevents vitamin oxidation, browning, and extends shelf life. In Japan, L-Homocystine is often added to milk to prevent spoilage and promote longevity with regular consumption.
3. Applications in Cosmetics
L-Homocystine has anti-aging properties. Incorporating it into cosmetics helps prevent skin aging, promotes rosy skin, and acts as a hair fixative to maintain hairstyles longer.
