Description
Additional Information

Static Friction Coefficient Tester

Standards
ISO 10545-17 Annex B Draft, National Standard GB/T 4100-2015 Ceramic Tiles

Laboratory
Ceramic Tile Laboratory Natural Stone Cohesion Laboratory

Instrument for measuring the static friction coefficient on dry and wet surfaces. The electronically controlled display shows the maximum frictional force (in kilograms) and calculates the average and static friction coefficient COF.

No. 1 wooden base with 4S rubber for testing ISO 10545-17 Annex B
25 kg load cell

Test Requirements:

This method tests the static friction coefficient between the surface of ceramic tiles and related flooring materials and 4S rubber. Under dry or wet conditions, the horizontal force required to initiate movement between the slider assembly and the specimen is determined by appropriate means, and the corresponding static friction coefficient is calculated.

This appendix specifies the method for determining the static friction coefficient of the surfaces of glazed and unglazed ceramic floor tiles.

Friction Coefficient

The ratio of the tangential force acting on an object to the force in the vertical direction when the object overcomes friction to initiate or tend to initiate sliding.

Static Friction Coefficient

The ratio of the tangential force acting on an object to the force in the vertical direction when the object is about to overcome static friction and initiate sliding.

GB T 4100-2015 Ceramic Tiles Appendix M specifies the method for determining the static friction coefficient of the surfaces of glazed and unglazed ceramic floor tiles.

Test Principle:

This method tests the static friction coefficient between the surface of ceramic tiles and related flooring materials and 4S rubber. Under dry or wet conditions, the horizontal force required to initiate movement between the slider assembly and the specimen is determined by appropriate means, and the corresponding static friction coefficient is calculated. Key differences include: the use of a slider assembly consisting of a 75 mm × 75 mm × 3 mm 4S rubber, IRD hardness 90 ± 2, bonded to a 200 mm × 200 mm × 20 mm plywood base; a counterweight of 4.5 kg; the use of float glass as a standard plate, with calibration and result correction procedures specified in the standard.
