Jojoba oil is a plant native to Mexico. Although it is now cultivated worldwide, the desert terrain along the U.S.-Mexico border remains the most suitable for its growth. The seeds of this shrub, which grows to about human height, were initially found in the arid desert regions of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Known as the "king of oilseeds" in the world, jojoba began to be cultivated in the mid-1970s. By the early 1980s, jojoba oil started to be sold on the international market and was used in cosmetics as a replacement for spermaceti oil and other similar oils.
