Ecdysone

This product is an active substance extracted from the whole herb of Cyanotis arachnoidea C. B. Clarke, a plant of the Commelinaceae family. Calculated on the dried basis, it contains not less than 90% of β-ecdysone [C₂₇H₄₄O₇].

【Description】 This product is a pale yellow crystalline powder, odorless, hygroscopic, and gradually darkens in color upon exposure to light.

【Identification】 1. Take a small amount of this product, add solvent to dissolve; a reddish-brown color should appear.

【Tests】 Loss on drying: Take an appropriate amount of this product and dry to constant weight at 105°C; the loss in weight should not exceed 5%.

Residue on ignition: Not more than 1%.

【Assay】 Take 50 mg of this product, accurately weighed, place in a 50 ml volumetric flask, add ethanol to dissolve and dilute to the mark, mix well. Precisely measure 1 ml, dilute to 50 ml, mix well. Determine the absorbance at a wavelength of 242 ± 2 nm using spectrophotometry, and calculate based on the absorption coefficient [E_1cm^1%] of C₂₇H₄₄O₇ as 249.6.
