Installation Method for ICLX50A-027H5041 Hot Gas Defrost Solenoid Valve

Refrigerant

Suitable for all common non-flammable refrigerants, including ammonia and carbon dioxide, as well as other non-corrosive gaseous\liquid working media.Not recommended for use with flammable or explosive hydrocarbon refrigerants.The valve should be used within sealed refrigeration systems. Note:

The ICLX functional module can only be used in valve bodies manufactured in week 49 of 2012or later. Therefore, the production date (week number) on the valve bodymust be 4912 or higher.

Temperature Range

-60℃/+120℃ (-76℉/+248℉)

Pressure Range

Maximum Operating Pressure: 52 bar g (754 psi g)

Application

The ICLX is used on suction lines to ensure safe valve opening under high pressure differentialconditions. A typical application is in large industrial refrigeration systems, where it serves asa solenoid valve on the evaporator return line requiring hot gas defrost.The ICLX opens in two steps: the first step opens approximately 10% of the capacity after thesolenoid pilot valve is energized.The second step automatically opens when the pressure differential across the valve reachesapproximately 1 bar.

External Pressure

The external pressure applied to the ICLX should always be 1.5 bar higher than the valveinlet pressure. This will allow the valve's MOPD to reach 28 bar. If the external pressure is2 bar higher than the valve inlet pressure, the ICLX's MOPD will reach 40 bar.

Electrical Connection

The ICLX valve is designed as normally closed. To ensure the valve operates in the normally closed mode, an EVMNC pilot valve must be installed on the pilot port near the external pressure inlet. For the valve to operate in normal mode, both pilot valves must be energized simultaneously, meaning both pilot valves can share a single signal.The coils require both coils to have a protection rating of IP67.

EVM NC: 10W ac (or higher) — when MOPD does not exceed 21 bar

EVM NO: 20W ac, when MOPD is 21 → 40 bar

EVM NO: 10W ac (or higher)

If the pressure differential across the valve in the normally open state exceeds 1 bar (15 psig), the valve will malfunction. In this case, the valve will close the portion opened in the second step.When installing the valve, the valve stem must be oriented upward (Figure 1).The arrow on the valve body must align with the flow direction, and thetop cover must face upward (Figure 2). The top cover can be rotated relative to the valve bodyin four 90° increments.The valve is equipped with a manual stem. The external pilot pressure tube must be connectedto the upper end of the main line to prevent contaminants and oil from the unit from entering thepilot tube. The valve can withstand high internal pressure. However, the piping system shouldbe designed to avoid liquid accumulation and reduce liquid pressure caused by thermal expansion.It must be ensured that the valve is not affected by pressure fluctuations in the system, such as"liquid hammer."

Welding

(Figures 5 and 8a) Before welding, the top cover(Figure 8a, position 2) and the functional module (Figure 8a, position3) must be removed to prevent damage to the O-rings and the PTFE(Teflon) inside the functional module. As shown in Figure 3, the functional module can beremoved upward by applying a vertical force to the groove.Note: All components must be removed from the valve body before welding(as shown in Figure 5).The internal surfaces and welding ends of the sealed ICLX valveare treated with anti-corrosion coating.To maintain the anti-corrosion effect, the valve should not be disassembled until welding.If the functional module is left on the valve body, even for a very short time, additional protectivemeasures must be taken for the functional module—such as covering it with a polyethyleneprotective bag or applying a rust inhibitor (e.g., refrigeration oil or BRANOROL) to the surface.Only materials and welding methods compatible with the valve body material should be used on the valve body.Do not allow welding debris and contaminants to enter the valve body and functional module.After installation, the valve body must not bear any external pressure (external load).Do not install the valve in systems where the valve outlet side is connected to the externalenvironment. The valve outlet side must always be connected to the system or the correspondingport sealed, for example, with a welded blind flange.

Assembly

Before assembly, remove welding debris and dust from the piping and valve body. Before reinstalling the functional module into the valve body, inspect the O-rings for integrity. If possible, apply some refrigeration oil to reduce insertion resistance and protect the O-rings. Check the top gasket for damage. If the gasket surface is damaged or bent, it must be replaced.Tightening (Figure 6) Use a torque wrench to tighten the top cover according to the torque values provided in the table.
