Basic Application Scope: This instrument is designed and manufactured according to the technical indicators and requirements specified in QB/T1662 "Klemm Absorption Tester". It is suitable for measuring the capillary liquid absorption height of unsized paper and paperboard. (Not applicable for paper and paperboard with a capillary absorption height of less than 5mm within 10 minutes).

Operating Steps

1. Rotate the eccentric handle to lower the scale to its lowest position.

2. Pour an appropriate amount of water into the water tank so that the zero points of all scales contact the water surface, achieved by adjusting the support feet.

3. Rotate the handle to raise the scale to its highest position.

4. Lay the sample flat and draw a line perpendicular to the length direction at 205mm from one end of the sample. Then clamp 10 samples on both sides of the scale on the cross plate, ensuring the drawn line aligns with the 200mm mark on the scale.

5. Rotate the eccentric handle to lower the scale to its lowest position, where the zero points of each scale just contact the water surface, and the sample is immersed 5mm into the water. Start the stopwatch at this moment to measure the time required for the sample to reach a certain capillary liquid absorption height or the height value of capillary liquid absorption within a specific time. Generally, the absorption height within 10 minutes ± 3 seconds is used, expressed in s/mm or mm/s.

6. When reading the numbers, accuracy should be up to 1mm. If the liquid absorption wetting line is slanted or curved, read the result based on the average height.

7. The length of the sample immersed in the liquid can be appropriately extended according to product standards or other requirements, but this should be noted in the test report.
