Asahi Kasei Leona is Asahi Kasei 's PA66 resin series. These products are engineering plastics with excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength. PA66 resin has a high melting point (265°C) among general-purpose engineering plastics and exhibits outstanding heat resistance. PA66 resin has excellent strength and stiffness. The high toughness and excellent impact resistance of these materials are valuable characteristics. These properties stem from the molecular structure of PA66 resin, characterized by tightly interwoven polymer chains and hydrogen bonding between molecules; the water absorption of these materials causes them to exhibit water-induced plasticity (water molecules occupy amorphous sites). These characteristics make LEONA™ materials an effective alternative to metals.
PA66 resin has excellent electrical insulation and tracking resistance. These properties arise from the absence of benzene rings in the molecular structure of PA66 resin, making it less prone to carbonization.
PA66 resin has excellent resistance to non-acidic chemicals, organic solvents, lubricating oils, and similar substances. PA66 resin has high intermolecular cohesion and does not become brittle even when compounded with fillers. Plastics are often compounded with additives such as glass fiber (GF) and mineral fillers to enhance material strength, among other properties. However, large amounts of such additives can lead to embrittlement, reducing strength and impact resistance. Therefore, the amount of filler added to plastics has a **limit, which varies depending on the type of plastic.
