Glutaric acid

Acicular or large oblique crystals. Melting point 96-99°C, boiling point 303°C (100kPa, almost no decomposition), relative density 1.429, refractive index 1.42793-1.43545. Easily soluble in water and alcohol, slightly soluble in petroleum ether. Due to its strong solubility and low residue, the formulated flux is very clean and does not cause whitening. It is one of the most important and essential raw materials for lead-free fluxes, used in flux and solder paste production to provide flux activity, playing a key role in purifying the solder and the surfaces of the soldered parts. Because of its minimal residue, cleanliness, high acidity, and low usage, it can be used in high-precision electronic components for mid-to-high-end environmentally friendly fluxes. The cost is relatively high. Used in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical intermediates, and synthetic resin raw materials: for the preparation of glutaric anhydride, α-ketoglutaric acid, peroxyglutaric acid, B-(4-chlorophenyl) glutaric acid, and as an intermediate for antihypertensive agents, etc. Also used as an initiator: in synthetic resins, synthetic rubber, and plasticizers: in the plastics industry. It can also be used in cleaning applications: glutaric acid has good compatibility and mild chemical properties, making it suitable for use as a cleaning agent and other materials.
