160AB Silicone Potting Compound

Dow Corning DC160 is a gray silicone potting compound developed by Dow Corning. When the two liquid components are thoroughly mixed, the mixture cures into a flexible elastomer used to protect electrical/electronic applications. Some products are easy to rework and repair. Special materials have been classified according to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and/or specifications. General silicone potting compounds require primers for good adhesion performance, whereas primerless silicone potting compounds only need surface cleaning for bonding.

DOWSIL 160Mixing - Component A and Component B are mixed at a 1:1 ratio

Dow Corning silicone 1:1 mixed potting compounds are supplied in two-component form and do not require strict matching. A mixing ratio of 1:1 by weight or volume simplifies the proportioning process. To ensure uniform distribution of fillers, Component A and Component B must each be thoroughly stirred before mixing. After the two components are fully mixed, the mixture of Component A and Component B should have a uniform appearance. The presence of light streaks or marbling indicates insufficient mixing, which may result in incomplete curing.

Usage Method: Provided in two-component liquid packaging, mixed at a 1:1 weight or volume ratio of Component A/Component B; automatic mixing and dispensing systems can be selected, or manual mixing is also possible; due to the fast-curing characteristics of some potting compounds in the datasheet, automatic mixing and dispensing equipment is required. In applications where the product is highly sensitive to internal bubbles, vacuum degassing at 28 to 30 inches of mercury is necessary.

Usage Range: For most applications, silicone elastomers can be used long-term within a temperature range of -45 to 200°C (-49 to 392°F). However, under low and high-temperature conditions, the material's performance in certain specific applications can become very complex, requiring consideration of additional factors.
