3M EGC-1702 is a completely azeotropic mixture. At its boiling point, the composition ratio of its liquid phase and vapor phase is the same, resulting in a fixed combination of steam and liquid. In general water cleaning applications, solvents that deplete the ozone layer are often used to enhance cleaning capability. Novec™ 71DA can replace such solvents without depleting the ozone layer (ODP value = zero). Novec™ 71DA is a hydrofluoroether, a ternary azeotropic compound of dichloroethylene and ethanol. It possesses strong solvency and effectively reduces surface tension. During the boiling process of the chemical liquid, it maintains a certain composition of the compound and retains its non-flammable characteristics, making it suitable for immersion applications and an ideal agent for flux removal and degreasing. Additionally, the ethanol content within it effectively removes ionic contaminants. Novec™ 71DA has low toxicity, does not deplete the ozone layer (ODP value = zero), has a low global warming potential (GWP = 170), and a short atmospheric lifetime (ALT = 4.1 years). Novec™ 71DA is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Significant New Alternative (U.S. EPA SNAP) approved solution.
