Model: 232 Paint Fineness Gauge / Paint Fineness Meter / Scraper Fineness Gauge 0-25 Microns
Product Introduction:
The Erichsen 232 Paint Fineness Gauge from Germany (made of specially hardened steel) is used to determine the particle size and dispersion degree of pigments and impurities in coatings, paint slurries, inks, and other liquids and pastes. It helps control the quality of dispersed products during production, storage, and application. It is used for fineness testing of dispersed products in industries such as paints, plastics, pigments, printing inks, paper, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, and food.
Testing Principle of Erichsen 232 Paint Fineness Gauge / Paint Fineness Meter:
It measures the fineness of coatings by scraping the test material into a wedge shape. The point where the particle size exceeds the wedge groove height is identified visually. The groove depth at the boundary between smooth and uneven surfaces is read, and this value represents the fineness of the coating.
Product Features of Erichsen 232 Paint Fineness Gauge / Paint Fineness Meter:
The 232 Fineness Gauge is made of hardened steel, specially treated to ensure dimensional stability. It features two precisely machined wedge grooves. One side of the groove is calibrated in micrometers (μm), while the other side corresponds to the Hegman scale (HS). Other scales can be customized upon request. The conversion between the most commonly used fineness units is shown in the chart below. The standard #232 fineness measurement ranges include 15/25/50/100 μm. The delivery includes a straight-edge scraper for film application.
Measurement Process:
Pour sufficient test material into the deeper end of the wedge groove, taking care to avoid bubbles. Hold the scraper perpendicular to the fineness plate and the groove, then smoothly scrape the material toward the narrower end of the groove. This process should be completed within 1-2 seconds.
Evaluation should be conducted within 3 seconds after scraping. Observe the groove perpendicularly at an angle of 20-30 degrees. Identify the position where particles accumulate or scratches appear. The corresponding groove depth at this position represents the fineness of the test material.
Maintenance of Erichsen 232 Paint Fineness Gauge / Paint Fineness Meter:
Clean immediately after use with a solvent. Do not use sharp or hard objects to remove residual paint. The straight edge of the scraper is subject to continuous wear, so apply minimal force during operation. Periodically inspect the scraper by placing it on a level surface (e.g., along the longitudinal direction of the fineness plate) and check for light transmission.
