Erichsen 318 Newton Hardness Pen
Other Products
Brand: Erichsen Germany
Model: 318
Modern manufacturing processes require efficient testing methods that are fast, direct, precise, anytime, and anywhere. This instrument is designed to measure the hardness of protective coatings. The hardness of paint films and plastic coatings can be accurately measured and recorded using the Model 318 hardness tester, whether on flat or curved surfaces, regardless of size. The instrument is always ready for use. It can be carried in a pocket and used for various hardness tests. Consistent hardness and coating quality contribute to smooth production. Deviations from specified hardness can lead to returns, production delays, and complaints. Developed by Robert Bosch GmbH and manufactured by Erichsen, the instrument meets the routine quality control requirements for protective coatings, even during production. The Model 318 hardness tester provides engineers, supervisors, inspectors, and other relevant personnel with a testing tool that meets the needs of various smooth production operations.
Detailed Introduction to the Hardness Tester
Testing Procedure
The portable Model 318 hardness tester is very simple to use. The estimated or known spring pressure can be set via the slider. Place the instrument vertically on the test surface and draw a 5–10 mm straight line at a speed of 10 mm/sec. The test head will produce a scratch that is barely visible to the naked eye. If the spring pressure is too high, the scratch will be clear; if the spring pressure is too low, no scratch will appear. The desired pressure, measured in Newtons, can be controlled each time by locking the slider. The scale engraved on the pen includes three pressure ranges:
0-3N | Blue mark |
0-10 N | Red mark |
0-20 N | Yellow mark |
Each spring corresponding to a pressure range has a color code matching the scale.
Maintenance and Care
A clean instrument produces clean test results. To clean, loosen the nut and remove the scale pen. Use a soft cloth to clean the rod and hole. No further maintenance is required. Although the Model 318 hardness tester is robustly constructed, the test head cannot withstand heavy impacts. The wooden box provided with the instrument offers this protective function. When not in use, the slider should be set to zero to preserve the accuracy of the spring.
