UK Elcometer 3092 Scratch Hardness Tester Product Description:
The Elcometer 3092 determines coating hardness by moving a tungsten carbide tip across the coating with a predetermined force.
The instrument body includes an indicator slider, secured by a screw lock, with a rounded tip at the front end pressed by a spring. There are four types of springs, corresponding to four scale ranges:
· Grey spring: 0-3N (0.671lbF)
· Red spring: 0-10N (2.248lbF)
· Blue spring: 0-20N (4.49lbF)
· Green spring: 0-30N (6.74lbF) (Additional purchase, not standard)
The spring force can be controlled by the slider; as the spring compresses, the force with which the tip presses against the test surface increases. By making short, straight scratches with the hardness pen and gradually increasing the pressure, the user can observe the force at which the tip leaves a mark or damages the coating.
Each Elcometer 3092 set comes with a carrying pouch, a tungsten carbide tip with a diameter of 0.75mm (0.03″), and three springs (grey, red, and blue). The green spring (0-30N) is also available as an optional accessory.
