Supply of TYPE B "Sun" Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux
TYPE B "Sun" Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux is suitable for welding various steels with Ni content less than 25%, particularly ideal for stainless steel and heat-resistant steel. For precipitation hardening stainless steel, Cr-Mo steel plates, and other steel grades with Ni <25% not mentioned above, TYPE B "Sun" Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux should be used.
The "Sun" Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux is supplied in its original state as an ultra-fine powder. During use, it can be mixed using the following two methods:
(1) Mixing with acetone (or ethyl acetate): Add an appropriate amount of acetone (or ethyl acetate) to the powder and stir into a creamy mixture. Apply the mixture to the back of the weld joint, with a width of about 3mm and a thickness of about 1mm. Allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes before welding.
This method is mainly used when the workpiece being welded does not experience severe vibration during assembly or welding. If severe vibration occurs, it may cause the coating to fall off. In such cases, the following mixing method should be adopted.
(2) Mixing with adhesive: To prevent coating detachment caused by vibration, mix the powder and adhesive in a ratio of 5-10:1 (by volume), then add acetone (or ethyl acetate) to dilute the mixture to a creamy consistency. Apply the mixture to the back of the weld joint, with a width of about 3mm and a thickness of about 1mm. Allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes before welding.
Note: After application, a continuous adhesive film will form on the surface of the coating, encapsulating the powder underneath. Therefore, the coating should not be scratched to prevent damage to the adhesive film, which could lead to powder leakage and loss of protective effect. The powder, encapsulated by the adhesive film, can withstand significant impact without detachment.
After the prepared flux has been left for a period of time, it may become viscous due to the evaporation of acetone (or ethyl acetate). Additional acetone (or ethyl acetate) can be added to restore it to a creamy consistency for continued use.
The Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux is suitable for various welding methods and joint types. Its main functions include: (1) Preventing backside oxidation (2) Preventing oxide inclusions (3) Preventing burn-through (4) Preventing welding porosity (5) Eliminating the need for back gouging in "X" groove welding (6) Facilitating uniform backside penetration (7) Achieving single-sided welding with double-sided formation.
Using Argon-Free Welding Backing Flux offers the following advantages:
• Lower cost—1 pound of flux often equates to dozens or even hundreds of cylinders of argon
• No need for backside argon protection
• Higher weld strength
• Better toughness
• Faster welding speed
• Less post-weld grinding
• Higher pass rate
• Easier operation
