Reducing agent sodium bisulfite

Sodium bisulfite can also be oxidized to form sodium sulfate while releasing sulfur dioxide gas. This is because the sulfite ion in the sodium bisulfite molecule can be reduced, and the reducing agent exhibits oxidizing properties in the reaction.

Sodium bisulfite is a white, crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 104.06 and a density of 1.48 g/cm³. Its melting point is 150°C and it has an irritating odor.
