The primary use of oxalic acid is in the rare earth ore industry. The oxalic acid precipitation method is applied in the separation and extraction processes of light, medium, and heavy rare earths. Extracting one ton of rare earths requires 1.2–1.4 tons of oxalic acid. Additionally, oxalic acid precipitation is used in the mining of heavy rare earth ores.

Fujian Longxiang oxalic acid is produced using the glucose oxidation method, resulting in strong acidity, high purity, and excellent cleaning performance. Fujian oxalic acid is relatively expensive and is generally used as a rare earth precipitant and quartz sand cleaning agent.
