Low Potential 11kg Magnesium Alloy Sacrificial Anode, A Trustworthy Quality Product

Sacrificial anode protection for gas pipelines, the magnesium alloy sacrificial anode method is the earliest applied electrochemical protection technique. It is simple, easy to implement, and does not interfere with nearby facilities. Sacrificial anodes also serve as a means to combat interference corrosion, useful for drainage, lightning protection, and static electricity grounding. Compared to the impressed current protection method, the sacrificial anode method has unique advantages and functions, thus receiving significant attention. In recent years, sacrificial anode technology has been promoted and developed in China. Production has also moved towards standardization and serialization. It has been successfully applied in the protection of oil and gas pipelines, seagoing vessels, and offshore structures.
I. Principle of Sacrificial Anode Protection
Based on electrochemical principles, when two metals with different electrode potentials are placed in an electrolyte system and connected by a wire, current flows. In this case, the metal with the more negative electrode potential acts as the anode, utilizing the electrode potential difference between the two metals as the current source for cathodic protection. This is the fundamental principle of the sacrificial anode method. See Figure 10-54.
II. Sacrificial Anode Materials
Since the sacrificial anode method provides protection current to the protected metal structure through the consumption of the anode itself, performance requirements are imposed on sacrificial anode materials.
1. Must have a sufficiently negative potential and exhibit minimal polarization during long-term discharge.
2. Corrosion products should not adhere to the anode surface, be loose and easy to detach, not form high-resistance hard shells, and be non-polluting.
3. Low self-corrosion and high current efficiency.
4. High current output per unit weight, with uniform current distribution.
5. Good mechanical properties, low cost, and wide availability.

Magnesium anode specifications are divided by net weight into 2kg, 4kg, 8kg, 11kg, 14kg, and 22kg, all in the form of trapezoidal cross-sections. The reference length for a 2kg anode is 206mm, for a 4kg anode it is 360mm, and for the others, it is 700mm. The steel core used for conduction is made of reinforced bar with a diameter not less than 6mm. The surface of the steel core should be galvanized, with an exposed length of 100mm.
