D-Type High Potential Magnesium Alloy Sacrificial Anode Applications
Magnesium is a commonly used sacrificial anode material in electrochemical cathodic protection engineering, characterized by high chemical activity, a relatively negative electrode potential, and a high driving voltage. Additionally, similar to impressed current cathodic protection systems, there should be no metal structures between the anode and the pipeline. The burial depth of the sacrificial anode should be such that the top of the anode is at least 1 meter below the ground surface. In dry areas where the groundwater level is below 3 meters, the anode should be buried relatively deeper. In rivers, sacrificial anodes should be buried at a relatively safe depth in the riverbed to prevent damage from water erosion, which could affect their performance.
