Inverter Selection Principles
Grid-tied inverters are critical equipment in photovoltaic power generation systems, playing a pivotal role in the conversion efficiency and reliability of the PV system. The main technical principles for inverter selection are as follows:
(1) Reliable performance and high efficiency:
Given the current high cost of power generation in photovoltaic systems, if the inverter consumes too much energy or fails during operation, it will inevitably lead to a loss in total power generation and reduced economic efficiency of the system. Therefore, the inverter must be reliable, highly efficient, and capable of outputting maximum power (MPPT) based on the current operating conditions of the solar panels.
(2) Wide adaptability to DC input voltage:
Since the output voltage of solar panels varies with sunlight intensity, weather conditions, and load, the inverter must ensure normal operation within a wide range of DC input voltages and maintain stable AC output voltage.
(3) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT):
The input resistance of the inverter should adapt to the actual operating characteristics of the photovoltaic power generation system to ensure that the system operates at the maximum power point.
(4) Low waveform distortion and high power factor:
When large-scale photovoltaic power generation systems are connected to the grid, to avoid polluting the public grid, the inverter must output a sinusoidal waveform. The current waveform must be consistent with the external grid, with waveform distortion less than 5%, higher harmonic content less than 3%, and a power factor close to 1.
(5) Protection functions:
Grid-tied inverters should also include protection functions such as AC overvoltage and undervoltage protection, overfrequency and underfrequency protection, high-temperature protection, AC and DC overcurrent protection, DC overvoltage protection, and anti-islanding protection.
(6) Monitoring and data acquisition:
Inverters should have multiple communication interfaces for data acquisition and transmission to remote control rooms. The controller should also have analog input ports to connect with external sensors for measuring data such as sunlight and temperature, facilitating data processing and analysis for the entire power station.
